NCW Demands Swift Justice in Odisha Beach Assault Case
The NCW has responded to the alarming gang-rape of a student at Odisha's Gopalpur beach, urging immediate state action. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken immediate action regarding the alleged gang-rape of a 20-year-old student at Gopalpur beach in Odisha. The commission described the event as 'shocking' and has called for swift intervention from state officials.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar issued a statement urging the Odisha Director General of Police to arrest all remaining culprits. The victim, an undergraduate student from a private college, was at Gopalpur beach for the Raja festival when the incident occurred.
This week, police detained ten suspects, including four minors, trying to cross state borders. chairperson Rahatkar emphasized the need for a timely investigation and comprehensive support for the victim, including medical care and compensation under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The NCW also requested a detailed report from the police within three days.
