Odisha Police arrested four suspects on Thursday for the alleged gangrape and murder of a minor tribal girl in Keonjhar. Officials stated that one of the accused was known to the victim. The charges were filed under various sections, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act.
The tragic incident occurred within Pandapada police station limits on June 16. Villagers later discovered the 17-year-old victim hanging from a tree after she had gone missing. Her family claimed she was gang-raped and then murdered, with her body hanged to suggest suicide.
Investigators recovered bloodstained clothes and other items from the scene, supporting suspicions of foul play. While two suspects were initially detained, four were arrested following further inquiries. "We are investigating from all angles," said Pandapada's IIC Laxmikant Pradhan, noting the autopsy will be crucial in determining the truth.
