A local court in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district has handed down rigorous life imprisonment sentences to two men accused of burning a youth alive in 2019, according to a statement made by a lawyer on Friday.

Each convict must also pay a fine of Rs 1.26 lakh, failing which additional imprisonment will apply. Two other accused in the case were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

Assistant district government counsel (Criminal) Amit Kumar Pathak explained that the incident occurred on May 14, 2019, involving an altercation at a shop on Gonda's Faizabad road. Tufail and Imran were convicted based on witness testimonies, medical records, and circumstantial evidence, while Nizamuddin and Ramzan were acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
