The North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has moved to suspend a senior faculty member after his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The arrest centers around a Rs 3.43 lakh bribery scandal, officials disclosed on Friday.
Professor Nirmalendu Saha, who leads the university's zoology department and serves as dean of the school of life sciences, was nabbed during an alleged bribery exchange that took place at NEHU's guest house in Guwahati on June 12. He was apprehended alongside the owner of a private firm involved in the transaction.
A senior university official stated that the suspension, initially delayed pending formal CBI notification, adheres to procedural norms. The CBI had filed a First Information Report on June 11 against Saha and Pranjal Sharma, a laboratory equipment supplier.
