In a remarkably swift operation, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), along with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Maharashtra's local crime branch, unraveled a high-stakes theft. The case involved diamond and gold ornaments as well as cash totaling approximately Rs 40 lakh, all of which were recovered within 48 hours, according to the Railway Ministry.
The theft occurred on the Indore-Daund Express train, where a 73-year-old woman, traveling with her husband, lost her handbag containing valuable jewelry and Rs 50,000 in cash. Upon reaching Lonavala, she discovered the loss and immediately reported it.
Collaboration between RPF and GRP proved effective as they utilized CCTV footage to track the suspect who deboarded at Kalyan. Identified as Mahesh Arun Ghag, a known thief, he was apprehended with all stolen items recovered. The Railway Ministry emphasized the importance of passenger vigilance and swift reporting of suspicious activities.
