The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has urged Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy CM Pravati Parida, and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan to step down after a fatal stampede at the Rath Yatra in Puri. The tragic event claimed three lives and left more than 50 injured.

The OPCC argues that the Rs 25 lakh ex gratia announced for the deceased is insufficient, demanding Rs 50 lakh instead, alongside Rs 25 lakh for the severely injured. The stampede near Shree Gundicha Temple occurred amid the Rath Yatra festivities, with thousands of devotees present.

Criticizing the incident as a result of severe mismanagement, the party seeks a judicial inquiry led by a district judge, rather than an administrative probe by the state's development commissioner. A fact-finding team led by former party president Prasad Harichandan visited Puri to investigate and found issues with the treatment of injured devotees at the hospital.
