The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has formalized charges against a pivotal operative of a prohibited Naxal group for allegedly raising funds aimed at resuscitating the faction in Jharkhand, the agency declared on Monday.

A supplementary charge sheet was submitted by the NIA against Bachcha Singh, also known by several aliases, in a Ranchi court. Singh, apprehended earlier this year in January, functioned as the general secretary of the Majdoor Sanghatan Samiti (MSS), tagged as unlawful by the Jharkhand authorities.

Investigations disclosed Singh's connection with CPI (Maoist) leadership, as he reportedly partook in amassing funds and engaging in incriminating behaviors to bolster the terror entity's operations within Jharkhand and beyond. Initially registered in July 2022, the case involves nine accused, with proceedings re-initiated by the NIA in August 2023.
