In an unexpected development, Gujarat Director General of Police Vikas Sahay has been granted a six-month extension by the state government, allowing him to remain in office until December 31, 2023.

The extension was officially communicated through a notification from the state Home department, which confirmed the Union home ministry's endorsement of the decision.

Sahay, a seasoned officer of the 1989 batch of the Indian Police Service, had ascended to the role of state DGP in March 2023.
