In a significant crackdown, Uttar Pradesh Police have dismantled a gang involved in the supply of fake currency notes, seizing counterfeit notes worth Rs 15.16 lakh from a vehicle, officials disclosed on Monday. The operation took place in the Phugana Police Station area of Muzaffarnagar district, according to Senior Superintendent of Police, Sanjay Kumar.
A case has been lodged against three individuals—Gaurav, Abhey, and Ankit—under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police confirmed. Two of the accused, Gaurav and Abhey, have been successfully apprehended, while the third, Ankit, remains at large. Efforts are underway to apprehend him, and the vehicle used for the transport of fake currency notes has been confiscated.
The arrested individuals confessed during questioning that they had been printing and distributing counterfeit currency throughout Delhi and various locations in Uttar Pradesh. The breakthrough followed a police operation based on a tip-off that led to the interception of the vehicle carrying the counterfeit currency. Legal proceedings in the case are currently progressing.
