In a significant crackdown, the Uttar Pradesh Police have apprehended Abdul Rehman, believed to be the mastermind behind an inter-state religious conversion racket, officials disclosed on Monday. Rehman, hailing from Firozabad, was arrested in a strategic police operation in Delhi.
Agra Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar identified Rehman, known as 'Rehman Chacha', as the current leader following the 2021 arrest of former kingpin Kaleem Siddiqui, who is currently serving a life sentence. Post-Siddiqui, Rehman allegedly continued the forced conversion activities, with religious literature found in his possession.
The investigation began in March after reports of two sisters allegedly coerced and radicalized. Kumar indicated that the group's operations had global links, with evidence of funding from the U.S. and Canada and a modus operandi reminiscent of ISIS strategies, leading to arrests spanning six states in India.
