The CBI court in Ahmedabad has handed a three-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to Harish Kishore Gupta, a former divisional engineer of Western Railway's Bhavnagar division, for accepting a bribe 15 years prior. The sentence follows a comprehensive investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The case, registered by the CBI in July 2010, accused Gupta of demanding and receiving a Rs 5,000 bribe from a railway contractor. This bribe was allegedly intended for issuing a significant work order of Rs 19.91 lakh and extending its completion deadline.
Following Gupta's arrest shortly after the case registration, the CBI conducted searches at his residence and office, leading to charges being filed in 2011. This prolonged legal battle culminated in the special judge's decision to impose both the imprisonment and a Rs 1 lakh fine.
