A tragic accident claimed the life of 60-year-old Babu Dharmu Chavan, who fell into an open water chamber on the Dombivli-Kalyan Sheel Road in Maharashtra's Thane district, officials reported. The incident, occurring on Sunday evening, has spurred calls for accountability and compensation from the victim's family.
According to Kashinath Chavan, the deceased's son, the open chamber, managed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), proved fatal when his father struck his head and subsequently lost consciousness. Despite immediate medical attention, he was declared dead at the hospital.
Amid public outcry, MIDC has begun an investigation into the incident. Deputy Engineer Audumbar Alat stated that CCTV footage is being reviewed to determine if negligence played a role, with assurances that the truth will be revealed shortly.
