A Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed into Milestone School in Dhaka, killing at least 20 individuals and injuring 171 more. The aircraft, an F-7 BGI, experienced a mechanical failure shortly after taking off, leading to one of the deadliest aviation incidents in the nation's history.
The crash claimed the life of Flight Lieutenant Mohammad Towkir Islam, the pilot who attempted to steer the aircraft away from populated areas. Despite his efforts, the jet collided with the two-storey school building. All injured persons were rushed to hospitals, and a high-level investigation is underway.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed shock over the tragedy. Emergency services, including firefighters and army personnel, conducted rescue operations at the site. The government's interim cabinet declared July 22 a national day of mourning, with flags flying at half-mast.
