In a major bust, law enforcement in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district arrested three individuals on Monday in connection with a plot to incite communal disharmony and a potential terror attack. Police noted the district's sensitivity, especially during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, as a reason for increased vigilance over social media.
The Kakrauli police uncovered alarming content circulating in local WhatsApp groups, showing graphic imagery of women and children allegedly attacked by members of the Bajrang Dal. The video, purportedly from Moradabad, actually depicted a crime in Pakistan, but was circulated to incite fear and anger among communities.
Those arrested include Nadeem, Rahees, and Mansher, who face charges under anti-terror and IT laws. Officials believe the dissemination was part of a well-orchestrated conspiracy to promote extremism. A forensic analysis of seized mobile phones is underway, with authorities not ruling out involvement from anti-national groups.
