India Post Launches Festive Rakhi Services Across Gujarat Ahead of August 9

With the joyous festival of Raksha Bandhan approaching on August 9, the Department of Posts has initiated an extensive and festive campaign across North Gujarat, ensuring that Rakhis and heartfelt messages reach siblings on time—both across India and abroad. As part of this initiative, special Rakhi counters have been inaugurated and a new series of designer Rakhi envelopes and gift boxes has been launched to cater to the seasonal demand.
The preparations were formally inaugurated by Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, Postmaster General of the North Gujarat Region, at the Ahmedabad General Post Office (GPO) and Navrangpura Head Post Office, with a vision to deliver happiness and tradition in the most efficient way possible.
Designer Rakhi Envelopes: A Blend of Utility and Festivity
To facilitate the secure and prompt delivery of Rakhis, India Post is offering four uniquely designed, water-resistant Rakhi envelopes. Priced at just ₹10 each (excluding postage), these envelopes are:

Printed with the India Post logo and bilingual festive messages

Easily identifiable during mail sorting for expedited delivery
These envelopes are currently available at Ahmedabad GPO, Navrangpura, and Revdi Bazaar Head Post Offices, as well as across major Head Post Offices and select Sub Post Offices in Gandhinagar, Mahesana, Aravalli, Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, and Patan districts.
Speedy Sorting and Round-the-Clock Booking
To streamline deliveries during the festival rush, India Post has enhanced its logistics capabilities:

Dedicated Rakhi mail sorting at National Sorting Hubs and Parcel Hubs

24-hour Rakhi booking counters operational at Speed Post Bhavan (Shahibaug, Ahmedabad) and at RMS facilities in Rajkot, Surat, and Vadodara
These facilities will ensure faster turnarounds, especially for last-minute senders. Moreover, the Rakhi post is prioritized during sorting and distribution phases, assuring timely deliveries even under peak volumes.
Record-Breaking Turnout Expected
Speaking to the media, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, an Indian Postal Service (IPoS) officer, revealed impressive statistics from the previous year:

Over 9 lakh Rakhi mails/parcels were delivered across Gujarat

More than 6 lakh Rakhi posts were booked from within the state These figures reflect not only the cultural importance of Raksha Bandhan but also the public’s trust in India Post’s ability to deliver sentimental value across distances.
International Outreach: Rakhis Beyond Borders
India Post is also catering to the Indian diaspora with International Track Packet Service, available at the Foreign Post Office, Shahibaug, allowing customers to send Rakhis abroad at affordable rates. Additionally, Gujarat Postal Circle has launched three new designer Rakhi gift boxes, priced at ₹45, ₹50, and ₹60, ideal for sending Rakhis along with sweets and gifts domestically and internationally.
These gift boxes provide an all-in-one solution for families separated by distance but united in tradition. With thoughtful packaging and sturdy design, they ensure that delicate items like sweets, Rakhis, and small mementos reach recipients safely and attractively.
