Police in Maharashtra have seized ketamine valued at a staggering Rs 88.92 crore from a factory in Raigad district, leading to the arrest of four individuals allegedly tied to the drug's production, officials confirmed on Thursday.
Following credible inputs, a comprehensive raid was executed at a drug manufacturing unit in Jite village within the Mahad MIDC area on Wednesday. The operation was supported by various teams, including assistance from Mumbai police's Anti Narcotics Cell, according to authorities.
The seized ketamine, known for its hallucinogenic effects, is commonly used as an anesthetic yet is also illegally consumed by youth seeking recreational highs. The detained suspects, identified as Machhindra Bhosle, Sushant Patil, Shubham Sutar, and Rohan Gawas, face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as the investigation continues.
