The Delhi High Court has highlighted the persistent confusion among various civic agencies regarding their responsibilities which has severely impacted the management of drainage in the national capital. In response, the court has urged the Delhi government to consider centralizing administration to better address issues of flooding and waterlogging.

At a recent hearing, Justices Prathiba M Singh and Manmeet P S Arora pointed out the mismanagement among agencies like the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) in maintaining stormwater and sewage drains, leading to excessive flooding. Residents often find stormwater drains blocked, further exacerbating the problem.

The court also examined a specific issue concerning water flow into the Maharani Bagh colony and urged the Public Works Department (PWD) and the MCD to collaborate with residents to resolve this matter effectively. The High Court emphasized the need to come to a consensus among the numerous agencies involved to ensure proper implementation of flood management strategies.
