The Chinese military's Southern Theatre Command announced on Tuesday that it had organized naval and air forces for combat readiness patrols around the disputed Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea.

Since July, the Southern Theatre Command has intensified its patrols and surveillance measures to firmly safeguard national sovereignty, security, and maintain peace and stability in the region, according to their statement.

The Scarborough Shoal is a significant flashpoint between China and the Philippines, with China claiming nearly the entire South China Sea. The Philippine embassy in Beijing has not yet issued a comment.
