Saurabh Garg’s Extended Tenure as Statistics Secretary: A Strategic Move
The tenure of Saurabh Garg, Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, has been extended until July 2026 by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. Garg will also serve as Secretary to the National Statistical Commission.

The Centre has announced the extension of Saurabh Garg's tenure as the Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation until July 2026. This decision was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
Garg, a retired Indian Administrative Service officer from the Odisha cadre of the 1991 batch, was initially appointed to this position on May 30, 2024. Previously, he served as Secretary in the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Beyond his role in statistics, Garg will also discharge duties as Secretary to the National Statistical Commission, indicating his continued influence in national statistical affairs.
