Intensifying Opposition: SAD's Stand Against Punjab's Land Policy
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) intensifies protests against Punjab's land pooling scheme, accusing it of defrauding farmers. SAD plans statewide agitation until the ruling AAP retracts the policy, which opposition views as land-grabbing despite AAP defending it as farmer-friendly and beneficial for urban development.

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has ramped up its opposition to the Punjab government's land pooling scheme, denouncing it as a fraudulent policy targeting farmers and landowners. The party vowed to escalate the protests across the state until the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) withdraws the controversial scheme.
In a recent core committee meeting, presided over by SAD leader Sukhbir Singh Badal, a resolution was passed to hold further demonstrations. Planned protests include gatherings in Bathinda on August 4 and Patiala on August 11, with subsequent protests at district headquarters.
While the AAP defends the policy, claiming it promotes transparent urban development and offers landowners compensatory plots, opposition parties criticize it as a land-grabbing tactic. The SAD counters the government's claims by launching the 'Proud to be Akali' campaign, aiming to rally further support.
