Operation Sindoor: Government's Digital Clampdown on Misinformation

The Indian government has taken decisive action by blocking more than 1,400 URLs from digital platforms during Operation Sindoor, targeting misleading and anti-India content sourced mainly from Pakistani social media accounts. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha of this significant measure.

Minister Vaishnaw detailed the activities of certain social media handles operating from outside India, actively spreading false and harmful information during the operation. The ministry's directive under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000 led to the blocking of websites and social media posts to protect India's sovereignty, defense, and public order.

Additionally, a centralized control room was established for efficient monitoring and coordination, featuring representatives from various military and media departments. This unit actively debunked misinformation and countered fake news, maintaining real-time oversight of digital media narratives related to Operation Sindoor.
