In a recent arrest, Delhi Police have detained two men suspected of orchestrating a cyber fraud operation. The arrested individuals, Shubham Sharma and Mohit, allegedly posed as law enforcement officials to extort over Rs 35 lakh from a woman, police stated on Wednesday.
The extortion scheme came to light when the victim, a homemaker, reported being coerced into payments through threatening calls from individuals pretending to be police officers. The criminals falsely accused her of involvement in criminal activities, manipulating her over several weeks.
Investigations employed digital forensics to trace the fraudulent activities, revealing fake bank accounts and UPI IDs. The suspects were arrested in Haryana; further inquiries are ongoing to dismantle the fraud network.
