Lebanon’s Leadership Pushes for Unified Arms Control Amidst Hezbollah Tensions
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun urges Hezbollah and political parties to surrender weapons to the army amid U.S. pressure, facing resistance. Aoun proposes a plan for peace talks involving ending Israeli attacks, Hezbollah disarmament, and international support for Lebanon's army and reconstruction efforts.

In a bold move, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has called for Hezbollah and other political factions to surrender their arms to the national army. The appeal comes amid increasing U.S. tensions and pressure on the powerful militia group, although Hezbollah shows resistance.
During an address from the defense ministry, Aoun emphasized the unique moment for establishing the monopoly of arms with the national security forces. Despite this, Hezbollah, having sustained heavy losses in its conflict with Israel, opposes these initiatives, framing them as advantageous to Israel's interests.
Critical discussions with Washington are ongoing as Lebanon puts forth a proposal calling on Israel to cease its military actions and withdraw from southern posts. In tandem, Hezbollah is encouraged to transfer its arsenal to the Lebanese army, with commitments for financial support and talks on Lebanese reconstruction planned for the international stage.
