Shockwaves have hit Maharashtra's Latur district after detainees of a shelter home for HIV-infected children rejected relocation orders from local authorities. This follows the alleged rape of a minor girl within the premises, prompting an investigation.
Accusations led to the apprehension of Sevalay founder Ravi Bapatle and several staff, all currently held in judicial custody. With charges set under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and POCSO Act, the incident highlights the grave vulnerabilities faced by children in institutional care.
Despite official orders to relocate 40 out of 75 children, they remain at the institution, citing satisfactory facilities. The Latur Child Welfare Committee is set to make a final decision, as authorities work to ensure the safety and well-being of these vulnerable children.
