Karnataka Industries Minister M B Patil dismissed Maharashtra's claims on Friday that increasing the height of the Alamatti dam on the Krishna river would lead to flooding in Sangli and Kolhapur districts.
Calling Maharashtra's objections 'politically motivated', Patil referenced rejections from the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal, the Supreme Court, and the Lok Sabha. He reiterated these bodies have consistently sided with Karnataka's right to manage its water resources.
Patil emphasized rampant encroachment in Sangli's catchment areas as the real cause of floods, urging Maharashtra to address these issues instead of stalling Karnataka's projects. Karnataka intends to counter Maharashtra's objections through the appropriate channels.
