India is actively engaged in rendering comprehensive support to Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse facing execution in Yemen. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is collaborating with friendly governments in hopes of securing a favorable outcome for Priya, who was convicted of murder in 2017.
The nurse from Kerala's Palakkad district is jailed in Sana'a, Yemen's capital. Officials intervened to delay the July 16 execution, and MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted the case's complexity and sensitivity, advising against misinformation.
Despite false reports, the Indian government clarifies that Priya's death sentence stands, although its execution is postponed. Diplomatic channels in Saudi Arabia are handling the case due to India's lack of an embassy in Yemen.
