A special court in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district granted bail to three individuals on Saturday. Among those released were two Catholic nuns hailing from Kerala, initially arrested under charges of human trafficking and forced religious conversion, according to their legal representation.
The ruling was handed down by Principal District and Sessions Judge Sirajuddin Qureshi of the NIA court, following a hearing conducted on Friday. Conditional bail was granted, as confirmed by defense lawyer Amrito Das.
The arrests occurred on July 25 at the Durg railway station, after a local Bajrang Dal functionary accused the group of forcibly converting three girls from Narayanpur and trafficking them. The court hearing noted that the prosecution did not seek custody for further interrogation of the accused individuals.
