A 76-year-old man, Jon Ruben, faced a court in central England recently due to accusations of child cruelty. The charges followed reports of boys at a summer camp falling ill allegedly from candy that contained sedatives.

Ruben remains detained until a scheduled court hearing on August 29th. During this preliminary appearance at Leicester Magistrates' Court, he did not enter a plea.

Local police were alerted last Sunday about the incident occurring at Stathern Lodge, located north of London. The facility is associated with the Braithwaite Gospel Trust, a Christian charity unlinked to the incident. Though eight boys and one adult were hospitalized, they have all been released.
