The alarming rate of chain-snatching incidents in Delhi, which has averaged 14 cases per day this year, has raised urgent public safety concerns. A recent high-profile incident involving Lok Sabha MP R Sudha has highlighted the persistent threat.
MP R Sudha fell victim to a snatching while walking in Chanakyapuri, a high-security area. Her ordeal underscores issues plaguing the capital's public safety infrastructure. She addressed her concerns to the Union home ministry, stressing the insecurity women face even in secure areas.
Official data reveals 2,503 snatching cases in the first half of the year. Despite a slight decrease from previous years, police efforts to curb these crimes face challenges due to snatchers' use of stolen vehicles and exploitation of blind spots not captured by CCTV.
