A 15-year-old rape survivor from Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, has given birth to a baby girl, igniting fresh legal actions to identify the baby's biological father. The local authorities commenced the DNA test process, a crucial step to legally ascertain paternity.
Shashikant Kumar Gaur, the accused in the case, has been detained and is currently in jail. The assault is reported to have occurred eight months prior when Gaur allegedly raped the minor, threatening her life if she disclosed the crime. The incident only came to light with the discovery of her pregnancy.
An FIR was filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the stringent POCSO Act in July 2025, resulting in Gaur's arrest. Superintendent of Police Vikrant Veer confirmed that both the young mother and her newborn are stable following the birth at Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College.
