Tamil Nadu is set to expand its pioneering Breakfast Scheme, spearheaded by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, to more than 3.5 lakh students in urban government and aided primary schools starting August 26. The initiative, first launched in 2022, aims to provide a nutritious meal to every student.
The expansion follows positive feedback from parents and students and now covers 2.23 lakh students in nearly 4,000 schools as of July 2024. Originally launched at Adhimoolam Corporation Primary School in Madurai, it has had a notable impact on student attendance and learning ability.
This successful model has caught international attention, inspiring states like Telangana and even Canada to adopt similar morning snack programs, contributing to improved student health and eliminating malnutrition, according to an official release.
