The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday took a firm stance against Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's remarks regarding the Supreme Court's observations about Rahul Gandhi, labeling them as a challenge to judicial authority. The BJP has called for the top court to take suo motu cognizance of her comments.
The controversy follows the Supreme Court's recent rebuke of Rahul Gandhi for his statements about the Indian Army. Priyanka Gandhi, standing in defense of her brother, claimed it is not the place of judges to decide who is a 'true Indian.'
The BJP argues that the law must be applied equally, referencing an earlier situation where BJP MP Nishikant Dubey was reprimanded by the court. Amity Malaviya of the BJP criticized the perceived 'smug entitlement' of the Gandhi family, stressing the need for judicial authority to remain intact to maintain public confidence.
