The Supreme Court has issued a directive for the creation of a unified mechanism to manage the conservation challenges of the Delhi Ridge, involving the Centre, the Delhi government, and the central empowered committee.
The Delhi Ridge, a significant ecological zone, is an extension of the Aravalli hill range and is crucial for supplying oxygen to the city. It spans four administrative zones covering around 7,784 hectares.
Chief Justice B R Gavai stressed that despite monitoring efforts, progress has been stagnant over the past two years. The Ministry of Environment and other stakeholders have been given a final opportunity to establish a unified system for addressing related issues, including permissions for tree felling.
