The shooter, identified as 28-year-old Quornelius Radford, was subdued by nearby soldiers and taken into custody. He has been stationed at Fort Stewart since 2022 and is a specialist in automated logistics. A motive for the attack has not been determined, and the investigation is ongoing.
Despite lifted lockdown measures following Radford's arrest, the incident highlights ongoing concerns about gun violence and security on U.S. military bases. This shooting is reminiscent of previous high-profile military base attacks, such as the 2009 Fort Hood incident, which left 13 dead.
