Authorities in Bavaria detained three men on Thursday as part of a wider investigation into the far-right Reichsbuerger group. The group is suspected of conspiring to overthrow Germany's government, according to Munich prosecutors.
The Reichsbuerger movement, which contests the legitimacy of modern German democracy, purports allegiance to a royal lineage they claim persists post-World War One. Several of its members, including the aristocratic Heinrich XIII Prince Reuss, are currently on trial for alleged terrorism and high treason, charges they deny.
The newly arrested trio is believed to have engaged with the group by partaking in firearms training at a former military site in 2022. These exercises reportedly aimed to prepare for an attack on the Bundestag. Searches related to the investigation were carried out in Bavaria, Saxony, and Thuringia.
