The Lok Sabha passed the Manipur Appropriation Bill, 2025, on Thursday despite heated protests from opposition members concerning changes to Bihar's electoral rolls. The bill was approved by a voice vote and subsequent parliamentary proceedings were adjourned for the day.
This bill facilitates the allocation and appropriation of funds from Manipur's Consolidated Fund for the 2025-26 fiscal year. The passage occurred without debate due to resistance from opposition leaders.
In response to the disruption, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman criticized the opposition for obstructing legislative proceedings. She highlighted the contradiction in the opposition's stance, indicating they block funds for Manipur while professing concern for the state, currently under President's rule.
