India Responds to China's Mega Dam Project on Brahmaputra

India has expressed its attention to recent reports concerning the construction of a massive dam project by China on the lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, also known as the upper reaches of the Brahmaputra, located in Tibet, as informed to Parliament.
Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, in response to a query in the Rajya Sabha, stated that plans for this project first surfaced back in 1986, and preparations have continued since. The Indian government is actively monitoring China's endeavors in this regard.
Efforts to safeguard the interests of Indian citizens residing in the downstream areas are underway, with discussions on trans-border river issues occurring through bilateral channels and an established expert-level mechanism. India has consistently urged China to ensure transparency and engage in consultation with downstream countries.
