Supreme Court Rebukes Allahabad High Court Over Temple Ordinance Verdict

The Supreme Court on Friday expressed dissatisfaction with the Allahabad High Court's language in a PIL concerning the Banke Bihari Temple ordinance. The court questioned the high court's criticism of the Uttar Pradesh government and its procedural approach.

Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi reviewed orders dated July 21 and August 6, issued by a single-judge bench, which challenged the 2025 ordinance establishing the Uttar Pradesh Shri Bankey Bihari Ji Temple Trust. The Supreme Court found the high court's remarks unwarranted and stayed them.

Additional Solicitor General K M Nataraj pointed out that the high court conducted parallel proceedings with the Supreme Court's ongoing review. The Supreme Court stressed the necessity for the constitutional challenges to be listed before a division bench and stayed further proceedings at the high court.
