Hindol Majumdar, an alumnus of Jadavpur University, has been embroiled in controversy after being accused of plotting an attack on West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu's convoy. He was granted bail by a Kolkata court after being arrested at Delhi airport on charges of involvement in the incident last March.
Majumdar, who is currently engaged in research at a Spanish university, was detained at Delhi airport following his arrival from Europe in response to a lookout circular issued by authorities. His court appearance came after three days in police custody, culminating in a Rs 1,000 surety for bail.
The decision for bail was made despite objections from Kolkata Police, who argued that his release might hinder the investigation. However, the court acknowledged his counsel's point regarding the lack of visible progress in the investigation.
