The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday condemned opposition members for their protest in the Lok Sabha against three Bills designed to remove the prime minister, chief ministers, and ministers following their arrest on severe charges. The BJP claims the demonstration indicated the opposition's support for corruption.
During the protest, opposition members allegedly threw torn papers at Home Minister Amit Shah, actions deemed ''shameful and undemocratic'' by BJP MPs who called for Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to take action. Criticism from BJP figures, including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, highlighted the call for law and transparency, arguing it essential given recent instances where individuals continue their governmental roles from incarceration.
Anurag Thakur, BJP MP and former Union Minister, questioned the opposition's motives, contrasting morality with corruption. LJP leader Chirag Paswan and a senior TDP leader expressed support for the Bills, arguing they target corruption. The incidents have raised concerns about the nature of political protests in Parliament and their impact on democracy.
