The Haryana Human Rights Commission has launched a probe following a media report highlighting the plight of a 15-year-old boy coerced into bonded labour in Jind district, Haryana. The boy, from Kishanganj district in Bihar, was deceived into taking up work at a buffalo dairy under the pretense of legitimate employment.
The report reveals that the child endured two months of forced labour and abuse, resulting in the loss of his left arm. Abandoned by his employer, he was eventually rescued by a teacher who provided medical aid and alerted authorities. The incident underscores systemic failures in child protection mechanisms.
Chairperson Justice Lalit Batra and the full commission have demanded immediate arrest of the accused, along with thorough investigations. The boy's case violates both domestic laws and international obligations, prompting calls for immediate rehabilitation and accountability for those responsible. The next commission hearing is slated for November 4.
