The Delhi High Court on Tuesday called out the Centre for stalling its decision regarding a government residence for former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the national capital. Justice Sachin Datta expressed disapproval of the government's selective allocation process.
In response to a plea by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for Kejriwal's housing, the court demanded the Centre submit by September 18 the policy documents governing house allotments and current waiting lists. Senior advocate Rahul Mehra from AAP pointed out the delay in decision-making while a bungalow previously considered for Kejriwal was allotted to another official.
ASG Chetan Sharma admitted the reassignment of the bungalow at 35 Lodhi Estate to a minister of state, emphasizing the extensive waiting list for residences. The court ordered the Centre to disclose the exact date of this allocation. AAP argued Kejriwal's entitlement under guidelines, adding the request to allocate accommodation had been ignored for over a year.
