Transforming Governance: India Earns Rs 3,300 Crore Through Cleanliness Campaigns
India has generated approximately Rs 3,300 crore from the disposal of office waste during its nationwide cleanliness campaigns since 2021. The fifth edition of the campaign will be conducted in two phases, focusing on reducing pendency, enhancing administrative efficiency, and promoting cleanliness across government offices.

India's government has turned waste management into a lucrative endeavor, generating nearly Rs 3,300 crore through cleanliness campaigns since 2021. These initiatives, endorsed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aim to institutionalize swachhata (cleanliness) and streamline administrative processes across government offices.
The newly launched fifth edition is a two-phase operation, with the preparatory stage from September 16 to 30, followed by implementation from October 2 to 31. A third-party evaluation is set for November to assess the impact and sustainability of the measures taken. Key areas include e-waste disposal, public grievance resolution, and effective space management.
The campaign includes notable achievements, such as freeing up significant office space and the installation of extensive waste treatment facilities across Indian Railways. The continued focus on space optimization and record management underscores a broader goal of transforming governance and enhancing citizen experiences.
