On Wednesday, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh reiterated his accusations of serious irregularities in the approval process for Adani Group's Dhirauli coal mining project. Citing a 2023 Lok Sabha reply, he claimed the project area falls under constitutional protection, contrary to the Ministry of Environment's previous assertions.
Ramesh alleged that the Ministry of Environment's earlier denial of his statements was inaccurate. While the ministry insists legal requirements were met, Ramesh insists tribal rights have not been acknowledged. His claims have yet to receive an official response from either the Environment Ministry or Adani Group.
The dispute highlights potential breaches of the Forest Rights Act, with Ramesh asserting incomplete settlement of tribal rights across eight villages involved in the project. The Madhya Pradesh government and Adani Group maintain their compliance with legal procedures, although controversy continues regarding the handling and approval of the project.
