The Supreme Court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to Jegan Moorthy, an MLA from Tamil Nadu's K V Kuppam, in connection with an alleged abduction case. The bench, comprising Justices Manoj Mishra and Joymalya Bagchi, confirmed its June 30 order and resolved the MLA's plea.
Moorthy had appealed against a Madras High Court decision that denied him anticipatory bail. He argued that the boy in question was recovered without being in his possession or control and claimed that his implication in the case was driven by malicious intent.
The accusation arose from a complaint by Lakshmi, who claimed her son was abducted after members of a girl's family and others invaded her house. The police report indicates her younger son was later found injured near a hotel.
