An accused involved in the recent theft of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) cartons has been arrested following a shootout in Ballia district, police reported on Thursday.
Additional Superintendent of Police Kripa Shankar stated that the incident corresponds to a liquor theft on September 13 near Lalganj village, where a liquor-laden pickup was intercepted on the Greenfield Expressway. Authorities registered a case concerning the matter. During a routine checkpoint near the Greenfield overbridge on Bairia-Dokati-Sonbarsa road, a suspect, identified as Abhi Rathore, opened fire when signaled to stop. In response, police returned fire, injuring Rathore in the leg before advancing to arrest him.
The accused, Abhi Rathore alias Abhinash, hails from Sawan Chapra village. A country-made pistol, ammunition, and a motorcycle linked to the crime were seized from his possession. Rathore received initial medical assistance at the Community Health Centre in Sonbarsa and was subsequently transferred to Ballia District Hospital, officials confirmed.
