District Crackdown: Gang Busted in Hospital Extortion Scheme
A gang was uncovered extorting money from illegally-operated hospitals in the district, leading to four arrests. Authorities raided 31 facilities, registering 19 cases and identifying seven middlemen. Three suspects remain at large. A special team was formed to prevent further illegal hospital operations.

A group involved in extorting illegally-run hospitals was dismantled in a district-wide operation, according to officials on Thursday. Four members were arrested as they allegedly charged between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh to protect these facilities from legal action.
In a press conference, District Magistrate Rajendra Pasiya, Chief Medical Officer Tarun Pathak, and Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishna Kumar detailed the operation. A total of 31 hospitals were raided, resulting in 19 registered cases, with more expected. The police have identified seven middlemen in the scheme, arresting four, while three continue to evade capture.
Authorities accused the group of using threats of legal action to extort money. SP Kumar highlighted ongoing investigations and mentioned plans to charge all those involved under the Gangster Act, including potential property seizures.
