Kolkata Police have apprehended Debanshu Biswas, the primary suspect in the alleged gangrape of a young woman in Deshapriya Park. His arrest followed the earlier capture of co-accused, Chandan Malik, at Bardhaman railway station.
Law enforcement, acting on a timely tip, located Biswas in the Deshapriya Park vicinity, arresting him on Thursday night. He is set to appear in court as police delve deeper into whether others were involved in the purported crime.
The investigation was prompted by a complaint from the survivor, who alleged that Malik, presenting himself as a South Kolkata Durga Puja organizer, introduced her to Biswas. The crime reportedly occurred during a birthday celebration on September 5 at a flat in Regent Park.
