A court in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur district has handed down the death penalty to a man found guilty of the rape and murder of his niece, aged just seven years. This grim ruling comes after the incident that shocked the Imalia Sultanpur area in January 2019.
The accused, identified as Neelu, was convicted by Additional District Judge Bhagirath Verma, who stated that such brutal acts against innocents 'shame humanity' and declared the case as 'rarest of the rare.' A fine of Rs 13,000 was also levied on the convict.
Additional District Government Counsel, Govind Mishra, conveyed that Neelu was charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. The verdict underlines the stringent measures being taken to deter crimes posing societal threats.
