A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Jammu has extended the custodial remand of two men accused of harboring Pakistani terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terror attack in April, which left 26 people dead. The remand for Bashir Ahmad Jothat and Parvaiz Ahmad has been extended by 45 days, adding to the initial 90-day period, following an order from Special NIA Judge Sandeep Gandotra.

The extension was granted in light of pending forensic and DNA profiling reports, as well as witness statements crucial to the investigation, which remains ongoing. The court prioritized expediting the completion of the investigation and has directed the investigating officer to wrap up the process promptly.

The prosecution moved the extension application under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, arguing that evidence remains outstanding, including witness statements, forensic and DNA reports, analysis of data from accused-linked mobile numbers, and details from a July encounter with terrorists in which arms were recovered.
